You must complete the ATI TEAS exam and have your official score report sent directly to MassBay Admissions by ATI.

Students may repeat the TEAS test twice within 12 months of taking it. TEAS results are valid for three years and are considered as one part of your admissions profile.

No minimum TEAS score is required.

Section 2: Admissions Requirements and Timeline Review

To be considered for admission, students must have the following:

  • Completed General Admissions Application.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or associate degree or higher.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 calculated from prerequisite and corequisite courses taken before application.
  • Completed Assessment Technologies Institute, Test of Essential Academic Skills (ATI TEAS) Exam. No minimum score is required.
  • Completion of English Composition I (EN101) with a grade of C or higher.
  • Completion of a 100-level math course with a grade of C or higher, or placement into a 200-level mathematics course (Calculus I or higher) via Massbay's Accuplacer Exam.
  • Completion of Anatomy and Physiology I (BI215) within a five-year time frame with a grade of C+ or higher at the time student records are reviewed for matriculation into the nursing program.
  • Completion of Anatomy and Physiology II (BI217) within a five-year time frame with a grade of C+ or higher at the time student records are reviewed for matriculation into the nursing program.

Science Course 5-Year Limit:

Science courses used in the evaluation process must have been completed within five years of the Selective Program Application deadline for the cycle to which the applicant is applying. Students may repeat each science course only once to achieve a C+ within the required five-year period.

For applicants who completed BI215 and/or BI217 with a grade of C+ or higher outside of the required five-year period, the college offers a competency exam to waive the five-year requirement. Successful completion of the competency exam must be completed before this application is submitted.

If any required item is incomplete or missing as of the date this selective application is submitted, your application will not be considered for evaluation or admission into the program.

The timeline for this admissions cycle is as follows:

  • Deadline to apply: September 25, 2026
  • Applications will then be reviewed by the Nursing Admission and Progression Committee.
  • Students will receive a decision letter through their MassBay email approximately 30 to 45 days after the application deadline.
  • Admissions decisions are as follows: Accepted, Denied, or Alternate (a small number of "Alternate" students are selected in the event that an admitted student is unable to accept their seat in the program).
  • Meeting all requirements does not guarantee admission to the program.

All required components will be compiled into an admission rubric sheet and reviewed by the Nursing Admission and Progression Committee.

Applicants will be ranked based on the following points:

  • Admission GPA, calculated from required prerequisite and corequisite courses.
  • Average grade of Anatomy and Physiology I and II.
  • TEAS Composite Score.
  • TEAS Reading Score.
  • TEAS Science Score.
  • TEAS Math Score.
  • TEAS English and Language Usage Score.

Section 4: Acceptance & Program Expectations

Required Pre-Entry Documentation: After being admitted into a Health Sciences program, students will receive instructions on how to upload required health documentation to an online platform. Students must submit all documents by the published deadline to be eligible to start Health Sciences classes.

  • Medical clearance and proof of immunizations as required by state law and outlined in the Division of Health Sciences handbook, admission paperwork, and the Health and Background Check Requirements information on the MassBay website.
  • Documentation from a healthcare provider of a positive antibody Hepatitis B titer, or documentation of “non-responder” status. A minimum of six months may be needed to complete this process.
  • Completion of the CORI/SORI process to authorize a search of conviction and pending criminal case information under Standard Required Level 1 by the Department of Criminal Justice Information Services. The CORI/SORI process is part of New Student Orientation. If there is a finding of criminal convictions or open cases, the student will be ineligible to participate in the Health Sciences program. A National County Criminal Background Check will also be conducted as part of the clinical requirements.

Required Immunizations/Titers for Students

After admission, students are required to demonstrate compliance with immunization and immunity verification standards. Evidence of immune status is mandatory for all students before enrollment in any nursing courses. These requirements are in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 79, §15D, and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health regulations, 105 CMR 220.700.

Varicella2 doses; first dose must be given on or after the 1st birthday, and second dose must be given ≥ 28 days after first dose; reliable history of chickenpox or laboratory evidence of immunity acceptable; birth in the U.S. before 1980 acceptable only for non-health science students.
Meningococcal1 dose; 1 dose MenACWY (formerly MCV4) required for all full-time students age 21 years of age or younger; the dose of MenACWY vaccine must have been received on or after the student's 16th birthday; doses received at younger ages do not count towards this requirement. Meningococcal conjugate vaccine, MenACWY (MCV4) and MenABCWY, fulfill this requirement; monovalent meningococcal B (MenB) vaccine is not required and does not meet this requirement. Students may decline MenACWY vaccine after they have read and signed the MDPH Meningococcal Information and Waiver Form provided by their institution.
PolioStrongly advised but not required: Documented completed series of polio immunizations. In the absence of polio documentation, vaccination is assumed for students who attended school in the U.S. Students educated outside the U.S. may be at risk unless vaccinated.

Immunity must be demonstrated through blood tests, also called titers, for some conditions listed below. A copy of the complete laboratory report is required for each titer. Physician documentation that says “positive titer” is not adequate.

Clinical Requirements

Students are required to demonstrate compliance with all immunization and health requirements by the established due dates to be eligible for clinical placement and to meet the obligations of legal contracts with affiliating clinical agencies. Students who do not meet these requirements will be prohibited from attending clinical, and as a result, will be unable to meet the course requirements.

  • Proof of CPR certification. The BLS (Basic Life Support) Provider Card from the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, or the equivalent from the Military Training Network is the only type of CPR certification that meets this requirement (Copies of both sides and a valid signature or e-card required.
  • The student must complete the CORI/SORI process to authorize a search of conviction and pending criminal case information under Standard Required Level 1 by the Department of Criminal Justice Information Services. A National County Criminal Background Check will also be completed as part of the clinical requirements.
  • Flu Vaccine: Annual flu vaccine from the current flu season.
  • TB (Tuberculosis) Screening: A 2-step TB test, which includes two negative PPD tests taken 1 to 3 weeks apart, or the QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus (QFT-Plus) or T-SPOT.TB test is acceptable. If you have had a positive PPD or blood test in the past, you will need a chest x-ray performed within one year before admission and must complete the symptom form. You may be asked to complete additional TB testing if a clinical facility requires it before you attend clinical. TB testing is required annually.
  • COVID Vaccination.
  • Hepatitis B titer demonstrating immunity.
  • Varicella vaccine or titer.
  • Fingerprinting and drug testing may be required in certain semesters.

Please note that these requirements are subject to change based on clinical affiliation requirements. Students are responsible for the cost of meeting these requirements.

Viewpoint Screening

If you are accepted into the program, you will be required to create an account on Viewpoint Screening, an online document storage and tracking system where you will maintain all your health and immunization records. Viewpoint will send email alerts when documentation is missing, incomplete, overdue, or needs to be updated. Authorized Division of Health Sciences staff refer to Viewpoint data to determine whether a student is in compliance with all requirements to attend clinical.

MassBay’s Division of Health Sciences does not accept, review, or maintain student health records. Submission of medical records to MassBay’s Office of Student Development as a General Studies student does not fulfill requirements for Health Sciences programs.
